Tracing genetic footprints of Neyer-Nair and Nair Bunt transitions and diffusions may be more sound than comparing population dynamics.
Buddhist influence in the early centuries of CE are quite distinct in Karavali in culture religion and architecture.Who were the tribes involved in Buddhism? Neyers were both Buddhists and Hindus, it is said.Rather I believe the borders between the religions were thin at that time. Please cite me the ref. on Neyers and Manjushri.Ravindra Mundkurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09073231068374498281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842465514699048204.post-46280554127711583502008-05-03T16:38:00.000+05:302008-05-03T16:38:00.000+05:30considering the flow of people from Nepal to south...considering the flow of people from Nepal to southern west coast, like Neyers(Nairs).

The problem in making that kind of statment is people tend to generalize these words as all Nairs descending from Newaris. Considerng the fact that Nair identity (as soldiers) is post 10th century it must be obvious that 1.2m Newaris (today's population) giving rise to (4-5m, today's population)Nairs is rather long shot. Of course, it is possible that elite class of Newaris giving its identity to a mass of population. There are two things that interest me immensely about Newaris.
1. Buddhist priests claiming the highest position in the caste system along with Vedic priests.
2. High importance given to Bodhisattva Manjusri.

These two features can show convergence of cultural evolution or cultural diffusion or genetic influence from that region.Manju Edangamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00474338169829802934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842465514699048204.post-54856224063596291282008-05-03T06:57:00.000+05:302008-05-03T06:57:00.000+05:30Narasimhamurthy(ibid) cites the reference of Havel...Narasimhamurthy(ibid) cites the reference of Havel as a footnote only, but he does not agree, stating that the similarity is only coincidential.(I have yet to read Havel.) But as you said, several other sources including Zacharias Thundy has recognized the Nepali influence on Kerala/Karavali architecture, which seems reasonable to me,considering the flow of people from Nepal to southern west coast, like Neyers(Nairs).Ravindra Mundkurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09073231068374498281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842465514699048204.post-8095614007518866962008-05-01T21:24:00.000+05:302008-05-01T21:24:00.000+05:30Nepali influence on the temples is probably the fi...Nepali influence on the temples is probably the first thing people observe about Kerala temples too.
